Proper soil management.
Sustaining farmers,
soil, water, air,
and consumers
Through Farm For Profit, a trustworthy and credile
network of farmers:
-
shares knowledge, experience and methods with other farmers
so they can reduce expenses while maintaining or increasing yields and
profits,
-
improves the quality of soil and water to sustain the environment
for present and future generations,
-
improves the quality of life and food for the consuming public.
Farm For Profit program has four major principles
or steps:
-
Soil management for any soil type.
-
Balanced nutrition in the field for any crop.
-
Reduced chemical rates with equal or better production results.
-
Train and educate farmers to maximize their opportunities
for success.
The key to successful agriculture is properly sustained soil that is rich
in nutrients and micro-nutrients, organic matter, air, and water.
Principle no. 1
Proper Soil Management
Some of the major problem facing all farmers today are related
to poor soil management which has these negative effects upon the soil
they farm:
-
compaction
-
restricted water penetration
-
reduced air spaces resulting in lower oxygen content
-
soil erosion
-
water runoff
-
limited root growth reducing plant nutrient uptake
-
increased contamination.
Soil
that is hard and compacted doesn't allow root systems to penetrate, and
soil that is full of agricultural chemicals burns off roots. The soil and
root mass on the right was treated with Step One® Agri-Remedy and
Agri-Achieve in the spring shows the corn root development; and
the untreated, compacted soil on the left shows less root development.
Strong
and full root development that penetrates deep into the soil leads to strong
yields.
The solution to damaged soil problems that result in lowered
yields is for farmers to learn how to manage their own soils. Using
expensive equipment to mechanically break up the soil is not the answer.
Farmers need to learn how to:
-
improve soil tilth
-
activate natural microbial activity for a healthier soil
environment
-
help clean up toxicity through bioremediation
-
get life back into the soil
-
improve soil structure
Principle no. 2
Good Plant Nutrition
Soil composed of the following components will result in
optimum plant growth and production:
-
43% to 49% minerals
-
25% moisture
-
25% air space or pore space
-
1% to 7% organic matter
These elements plus earthworms, soil life including live
micro-organisms, insects, rodents, and massive root systems create top
yields.
Step
2's True Solution Starter Fertilizer (3-18-18) can be applied at planting
time or as a foliar feed. The positive results of using Step 2®
vs no fertilization can be dramatic, as demonstrated by the crop on the
right.
Why use 3-18-18 True Solution Starter Fertilizer from
Farm
For Profit?
Because you get these results:
-
low salt index
-
doesn't settle out
-
cost effective
-
true solution results (each drop contains the same amount
of N, P, and K)
-
excellent foliar application coverage
-
100% availability to plants at germination
Principle no. 3
Well-Managed Chemical Rates
Reduce chemical rates by blending pesticides with
Vegetable Oil from Farm For Profit that is 93% once-refined, de-gummed,
soybean vegetable oil, and 7% high-grade emulsifier.
How does Vegetable Oil from Farm For Profit work?
It encapsulates selected chemicals and protects them from
oxygen, sunlight, and high pH water degradation while also producing uniform
spray droplets. The results are:
-
excellent control of chemicals
-
greatly reduced chemical volatilization
-
reduced wind drift
-
increased leaf surface coverage
-
reduced washoff
-
reduction of pesticides by 25% to 80% (depending upon chemicals
selected)
Farm For Profit recommends waiting to see which problem weeds are developing
before spraying. By blending post-emergent pesticides with Step 3 Vegetable
Oil®, the application rate can most commonly be decreased by 50%.
Vegetable Oil used along with herbicides achieves weed-free fields while
saving the farmer money and sustaining the soil.
Rules of Thumb from Farm For Profit for effective
and efficient chemical application rates are:
-
Identify the pests
-
Select the pesticide that does the best job of controlling
the pest
-
Use the smallest amount of pesticide as possible to control
the pests
-
Use vegetable oil where permitted
-
Follow the label on the chemical package for proper mixing
sequence
Principle no. 4
Education and Training
Free to the farmer simply for asking. Farmers and Farm
For Profit's specialists share information on common problems and learn
how to balance their soils with skill, knowledge, experience and products.
Farmers learn about:
-
correctly interpreting soil tests
-
how to improve yields
-
how to utilize record systems for cost comparisons
-
proper use of equipment, fertilizers and chemical rates
The best place to evaluate the results of agricultural
methods and educate farmers is right in the field. Farm For Profit representatives
provide timely advice to help other farmers.
Farm For Profit representatives are specialists
who use state-of-the-art testing methods to determine proper application
rates to sustain the soil and achieve maximum yields.
Farm For Profit -- The Practical Choice
Farm For Profit is a group of farmers helping
farmers, dedicated to the quality improvement of soil, water, and air on
individual farms. Farm For Profit believes in good soil management
practices; producing optimum yields with reduced expenses; and production
of quality food for the consuming public.
